Hello, my name is Atharva Tyagi! I’m a senior at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ. I’m passionate about the interesction between atmospheric science and machine learning. If I’m not preoccupied with getting Xarray to do what I want it to or reading Tarbuck & Lutgens’s Earth Science, you’ll find me doing some sort of outdoor activity.

Recent Research Experience

Machine Learning-Based Flux Footprint Emulator over a Solar Array

October 2025–Present

Developing first-of-its-kind flux footprint emulation over non-homogenous surface geometries with Dr. Ankur Desai
Using CFD simulations over a solar array with FastEddy to generate high-resolution flux footprint targets with STLIT
Utilizing fourier neural operators to learn mappings from environmental variables to the target flux footprints

Next-Hour Lake-Effect Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts over the Great Lakes with Deep Learning

September 2024–September 2025

Created a novel 41 GB dataset with Python containing 10,202 samples of lake-effect precipitation from public data on AWS
Enhanced a pix2pix GAN model with a UNetFormer generator over the Great Lakes to produce superior results to NOAA’s HRRR
Earned a grand award (4th in category) at the 2025 International Science and Engineering Fair, published a paper, and runs it live

National Science Bowl Club

Captain

Participates in the National Science Bowl Club since 6th grade to compete in the competition
Selects and manages team A and B for participation in the National Science Bowl
